Babysitter - Tape V
Babysitter - I Gotta Be Me, I Gotta Be Free
Since emerging from the muck one year ago, Victoria’s Babysitter self released their first three cassettes before dropping a pair of burners on Totally Disconnected and Electric Voice. These charming cavemen continue the scuzz fuzz hit parade with Tape V, out just in time for a Canadian tour spreading the revolution coast to coast. Edition of 50, pro dubbed, feelgood family fun.

The Poly Shores - s/t
The Poly Shores - Badminton Champion
Frothing at the mouth like Cujo without a bone, Calgary’s Poly Shores play over the top spaz jams that are also earworms (in a good way). Think Ponytail minus the gibberish or Toni Basil fronting a math-rock band — with or without the cheerleader outfits — and you might be in the right ballpark. Originally self released in 2010, and now reissued by POTT as a limited run cassette. Edition of 50, pro dubbed, rhodamine red.

Arcseconds // Sundrips split [Cover art: Marc Rimmer]
Arcseconds - Lima Yankee Seven Alpha by Planet of the Tapes
Sundrips - Soft Span (excerpt) by Planet of the Tapes
After months of preparation, the c40 split from Berlin-based cosmonaut Arcseconds and Montreal’s dreamiest drone duo Sundrips is ripe for the gripping. With his debut transmission, Arcseconds’ side is a four-song suite on the theme of space crafted from eerie vocal samples, stuttering beats and computers gone haywire. Sundrips fill side 2 with the 18-minute drifter “Soft Span”, utilizing their trademark array of cascading synths, time sculpting pedal effects and tickling flickers of guitar scorch, meditating at the temple of Kosmische Musik. Available in a black on black or purple/silver sleeve.
SOLD OUT. Copies may still be available from Tomentosa or DNT, so please contact them for orders.
Arcseconds “Astronauts” video
Planet of the Tapes’ upcoming March 2011 release is a c40 split shared by Berlin’s Arcseconds and Montreal’s Sundrips. Prolific video artist Moduli TV (a.k.a. Frank Ouelette of Hobo Cult records) offers up a preview with this fittingly themed clip for the Arcseconds song “Astronauts”, sampling footage from Terrence Rafferty’s Criterionized 1989 space-doc, For All Mankind: Fantastic Voyage.
